Performing Arts Awards Evening

Our second annual Performing Arts Awards Evening took place last Thursday, 14th November, in front of a sold-out audience—and what an incredible evening it was! I couldn’t be prouder of our Performing Arts students, whose music, dance, and drama performances were nothing short of outstanding. Congratulations to all of the award recipients, and a heartfelt thank you to the staff, parents, and volunteers who helped make the event such a success.

Thank you to all who attended and supported the evening. Next year's date has already been locked into the calendar - Thursday 13th November. Please add this to your calendar!

Masterclass with Beth Condon (BDC Alumni)

What is becoming a lovely tradition at the Performing Arts Awards Evening is having Performing Arts Alumni return to the college to assist with the presentation of awards. All of our alumni invited so far have felt honoured to be included in the event and have all been amazed with the growth of the college and the Performing Arts faculty.

One of the BDC alumni at this year's event was Beth Condon from the Class of 2009. Beth studied Music 2 and Extension whilst at the college, majoring in Performance on Viola. Since graduating, she has pursued a career in music, studying a Bachelor of Music (Performance) at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) in Melbourne. She has performed with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra and the Opera Australia Orchestra. In 2018, Beth was also engaged as an emerging artist with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and has since worked for the ACO as a core educator in the ACO Foundations program in Western Sydney. Currently, Beth is also a core member of the Nomad String Quartet.

Beth drove from Sydney especially to attend our event and on Friday morning, she returned to the college to deliver a masterclass, workshop and Q&A session to our HSC and High Performance Music students. Thank you to Camble Scott (12), Sarah Jupe (12), Ila Greenaway (9) and Adelaide Robinson (8) for performing at the masterclass and being open to feedback from Beth. This was a wonderful opportunity for our students and a special thank you to Beth for making the effort to attend our Awards Evening and deliver a masterclass.

Sports Awards Dinner

Thank you to Zitong Lin (7) and Sofia Bravo (7) who provided entertainment prior to the Sports Awards Dinner on Wednesday 30th November at Pacific Bay Resort. The students performed a range of pieces on the piano as guests arrived. Thank you Zitong and Sofia.

Diocesan Schools Network

Thank you to Matthew Healy (9) and Patrick Bower (9) who provided entertainment at the Diocesan Schools Network dinner on Thursday 7th November. This event saw the college host the Bishop, the Grafton Anglican Schools Commission and the various Principals, Business Managers, Chaplains and Council Chairs. The dinner was held on the deck of the Rodham Building with Matthew and Patrick performing a range of pieces on guitar both as a duet and soloists.

Remembrance Day

Thank you to Kael Scott (8) for performing The Last Post and The Rouse at the Remembrance Day Service on Monday 11th November. Also thank you to Lily Sameh Ali (6) who sang the National Anthem at this whole school assembly. Both students did a wonderful job.

Battle of the Bands - Woopi Brewery

Good luck to our Secondary Rock Band (SRB) who have successfully made it to the live heat of Battle of the Bands. They will be performing on Saturday 23rd November at Woopi Brewery at approximately 1:30pm. I’m sure the students would love some support from the BDC Community if you can make it. Good luck to Frank Lane (8), Bhadra Avarind (8), Axel Nicholson (9), Tenzin Aichroy (9) and Bram Nicholson (8).

Secondary Assembly Performances

Thank you to students who have performed at Secondary Assemblies this term. Matthew Healy performed a beautiful arrangement of The Beatles classic “Let It Be” on electric guitar in Week 2
