Chaplain's Chat - Christmas Appeal

Thursday, 11 Nov 2021
“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me...”
— Matthew 25:25

Each year in Term 4 at BDC we gather hamper donations to go towards the Uniting Church Soup Kitchen and the Warrina Women’s and Children’s Refuge. It’s sometimes easier to imagine that those in need are overseas or a long way away, too far for us to be able to help. The reality is that the current housing crisis and the impact of the pandemic on our economy has led to financial insecurity for many within the Coffs region. We invite BDC families to do what we can by contributing donations of long life food in addition to baby and women’s items towards our hamper appeal. These hampers will go towards local families and individuals who access the support of Warrina and the Soup Kitchen.

The Season of Advent, which begins on Sunday 28th November, is our time of preparation to draw close to the mystery of Christmas. Across the campus in our final weeks of Term Four, the energy, colours, generosity and music of Christmas begin to shape our activities. Advent is our time to dig deeper and reconnect to the ancient story of a fragile, displaced infant child bringing hope to the world. We are reminded of God’s presence and healing in the midst of the fragility of humanity.

Peace on earth and mercy mild

God and sinners reconciled

Joyful, all ye nations rise

Join the triumph of the skies

With the angelic host proclaim:

"Christ is born in Bethlehem"

Hark! The herald angels sing

"Glory to the newborn King!"
