National Careers Week is coming to BDC! - this year's theme is STEM CAREERS

We have some great K-12 interactive displays throughout the week to showcase the diverse range of possibilities in this field. The presenters are happy to talk to students about how they got started in their careers and give advice and tips. There is literally a career in STEM to suit everyone whether you're looking at a University OR a trade pathway! Displays will be from Tuesday - Friday during Recess and tutor time. Come along and check it out.

TAFE YES Program kicked off this term

11 Year 9 and 10 students grabbed the opportunity to do a free TAFE taster course this term to explore their future career interests. Students have undertaken courses in Metal Fab/welding, Maritime, Automotive and Barista skills and will attend TAFE one day per week for 6 weeks this term.

University of New England (Armidale) Open Day

We joined a Coffs/Clarence combined school excursion to UNE’s Open Day last week. We checked out the courses on offer, found out about scholarships and toured the accommodation and sports facilities at the university. Students enjoyed the day (and the free breakfast and lunch - thanks UNE).

Year 7 Career Pathways

I met with Year 7 this week. Those new to BDC had an introduction to our Career Pathways Program and learned that they will be undertaking career activities with me each year  throughout their time at BDC, exploring their interests, skills and abilities, career personality and possible careers that may suit them. Those who were in Year 6 at BDC last year have started their career activities last year and we will continue to build on these.

I am really looking forward to working with this lovely group.
